So… there’s something about species tags that I’ve found confusing for a while.
The canon hippogriffs are tagged as classical hippogriff
, but the word “classical” makes me think of a more traditional depiction, rather than the My Little Pony version. There’s also sea pony
and seapony (g4)
, which feels like splitting hairs.

I’ve always just ignored that. I don’t know the difference. Show hippogriffs are just hippogriffs IMO.

@Nitro_IndigoSea Pony
and Seapony (g4)
are not ‘splitting hairs’ as they are two distinct body types from entirely different eras.
@ToastypkClassical Hippogriff
was made to differentiate between old fanon/oc hippogriffs before they came to be.

I meant that most people use seapony (g4)
alongside sea pony
anyway, and “classical hippogriff” has an unclear name.

That’s their fault for tagging poorly.

imo seapony (g4)
should just be retagged to seapony
, and sea pony
to sea pony (g1)
.
Given that the more recent variant is much more prolific and commonly depicted, and that the “G4” variant has also become relevant in G5, so an updated name would be appropriate.
Or we could give them names that could help future proof in general, maybe make classical sea pony
for the G1 variant.

Why not convert pony
into a body type? We already have unicorn
& friends as species tags.
Also, where’s the arthropod
body type for insects, arachnids, and crustaceans?

iirc it was at a time.
People preferred it as a species tag, so it was put back as a species tag. At least that’s how it seemed on the outside looking in, I don’t think I was staff at that time.

This is more of a feature request, but there should be dead tags. For example, if someone tags sea pony
or seapony
, the system forces them to pick between sea pony (g4)
and seapony (g1)
before saving.

I’m confused on what context the
tulpa
tag should be used for, as I’m not sure if they are actually the same thing asimaginary friend
or if they are something different.
Basically, I saw this definition…
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulpa
I at first thought it would be useful, but it isn’t as I still feel some imagery under the tulpa or imaginary friend tags still muddles things.

Is pony dragon hybrid the same thing as dracony? Because if it is, it should be aliased.

The tag doesn’t seem to exist. Was it spelled a different way?

Most of my career has been spent trying to get encodings to play nice. It’s a good job, if you don’t mind swimming in a sea of conflicting and often adversarial international and corporate standards all day.

[@Ciaran]Moving here from the locked thread about why Anatomically Correct tag automatically adds Vulva tag. Sorry no account, don’t want account so I can’t make a thread for this. Just want to point out that vulva really shouldn’t be automatically added with anatomically correct.

It’s literally what it says on the tin:
An animalistic horse vulva present in an image.
The tag comes with vulva. Always.

It’s one of those broken stair step situations. The tag originated very early in the site’s history when tagging was quite different and much more, let’s say memetic, than systematic. In that context it was not so misleading. The context has shifted, so nowadays when users who are not familiar with the tagging here see “anatomically correct” they easily assume the literal meaning (correct anatomy), or at least the idiomatic phrase without an arbitrary and unmarked scope restriction (species appropriate genitals present, as opposed to Barbie doll anatomy).
But of course, the tag is, for whatever reason, still limited to female genitals, and still named in a way that does not hint at that no way no how.
Frankly I think the reason is the sheer volume of use. Anyone with the know-how to even effectively propose a change is already deeply conditioned to “just know” how this tag is supposed to be used. They automatically step over that broken stair step, so to say, after walking those stairs hundreds of times.

I think “anatomically correct (vulva)” should have a clearer name, too, even though I don’t look at that kind of art. (Though the other day, I accidentally saw p*rn tagged as safe and corrected it.)
